Are you using floppies? If so, the easiest thing to do IMO would be to boot
from the bootdisk, use the version of disk utitlity ( don't remember of
hand..) Format the disk and install. However, if you are doing a " network "
install.. I don't recall if you can erase that disk even through SCSI disk
mode... Let me look through some old docs and I can get back to ya...

Correctly, you can't install older Sys over newer, you must reformat/initialize first

It is refusing to boot up from the Disk Tools floppy 7.1. I am holding command, option, shift, delete buttons. Getting an error message that says this system won't work on the current Macintosh (PB 180)

You should not have to hold any keys for the Floppy to take over the boot. That's the default start up.

Do you have anything connected to the SCSI external ?

AC adapter hooked up ?? Don't want the battery to run out during initializing ... bad thing could happen.
