Of course, in the real world, things can be different. A 3400 with its RAM maxed out can easily be run with virtual memory shut off, even under OS 9. You'd never get by with that on a 1400 unless you never do multitasking of any sort. What's more, VM on a 3400 is a lot faster than on a 1400 because it has a faster IDE controller. It also has a faster bus speed, a better graphics chip, better sound and can easily be modified for USB connectivity. In fact, the 3400's capabilities are quite remarkable for a machine introduced seven years ago.
Which chip is the IDE controller ? I wonder if I could replace it with a pin compatable faster unit ?
