I have a 2.5" EIDE to 40-pin EIDE adapter I bought from a PC-oriented place. This I use in my Beige to initialize and test drives before they are installed in a PowerBook. I also use this same device to recover any data on a "used" PowerBook before I completely "wash" the drive in preparation for reuse. Usually, I will initialize a drive with the test and "write zeros" options turned on, thereby giving me a completely clean, and error-free drive.
