My question is, does anyone know a sure way to accomplish printing from the 3400c to an Apple Stylewriter 1500? The 3400c is currently running 8.6. Has both a combination modem/printer port and a combination ethernet/modem port; no quickdraw gx.
I have checked the support info from apple and cannot, as they suggest, set the modem to either "normal" or "external". Have tried different combinations of appletalk settings, turning on and off different extensions, all to no avail.
I have the original software from the printer and the manual which repeats apple's directions printing from a 3400c. Apple support suggests not installing the original software, rather using the driver that comes with the later OS, which I did. However, I had the same problem using the original software with 7.6. Now, if I want to try the original software, I get an error that the OS must be 7.6 or later ! :) and it won't install...
When I try to print to it, the Stylewriter will switch from "sleep" to "on", but always fails during initialization. The message is generally that there is a problem communicating, be sure it's plugged in. It works on an old 6100, so it's not the printer.
