Well, I got the PB back up and running on os8.1. Here's the trouble I had to go to to do it.
When I first had gotten the PB I stuffed the system folder and spanned it and copied it to my pc, on several floppies, for use in Basilisk II for windows. Well I was able to burn the Mac OS 8 Basilisk .dsk file onto a cdr using Alcohol 120%, you just burn it like an ISO, the mac will read it. So, I booted to my external SCSI bay with the hard drive from my Performa 6115cd in it, and was able to overwrite the os 7 system folder with os 8.1 that I copied from Basilisk, this time I left the main drive formatted with mac os standard, that way it wont be such a hassle to maintain later on. Once I had the book up and running again, I downloaded the newer (not os 7) version of disk first aid. I copied the 8.1 system folder over the the performa's harddrive in the external enclosure, and hooked up the crashed harddrive. Booted to the SCSI and attempted to repair the damaged IDE drive, well it is so bad off that disk first aid can't even mount it to repair it, so my only option there is to reformat it. Ok I did have my apps and all backed up on another SCSI drive, so I connected it up in the external SCSI bay after booting to the good IDE drive, all in all I'm back up and running 8.1 after many hours of work, all that's left is to put the book back together... I plan on getting an OS 9.1 cd and upgrading to that, I've herd it may actually be faster because 8.5 and up are true PPC os's, don't know how true that is. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
