The Lombard and Pismo G3s, which are relatively recent machines, and are PCI-based, compared to your relatively old, and NuBus-based 2400 are the ones which have the issues with certain ATA-6 drives. There are several vendors which support older PowerBooks, most particularly 1400s, but also those up to the 3400 (last 604) and 3500 (first G3), whom you can ask for guidance. I don't have a 2400, and my 3400s and my 3500 have the stock 10 GB (or smaller) drives. It's my later G3s where I've installed 40 and 60 GB drives, the major reason being DVD authoring, and on which I have also installed DVD writers, including dual-layer writers. (Before the Lombard, the optical drives in PBs were proprietary, and this effectively discouraged upgrades to CD-R-R/W, much less DVD-R-R/W, except for certain ultra-rare third-party optical bays, which did incorporate industry standard 12.7mm optical drives). -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
