After receiving the answer to my problem, I forwarded it to a friend who had
tried to install a not-so-cheap combo usb/firewire card in his powerwave. He
had given up on getting it to work after his research indicated he needed a
different mobo.
He responded back to me already this morning that he had the same results as
I did - his usb is now working! Now, he asks, is there a miracle cure for
getting the firewire side of his card to work?

Thanks,
Wayne
