This may fall under the category of a DUH, but several manufacturers 
firewire cards wont work under anything but OS9 & higher. (I spent a 
frustrating weekend trying to get a PCI firewire card to work onj 8.6 
before I "discovered" the problem. <G>) Same thing, if you have OS9 or 
higher then go to Apple.com and download their latest firewire driver. 
(I think it's 2.3 now?)
