My wife thought I was STRANGE, for having an Old Mac with an Image Writer II printer, in the Garage workshop. Great for making wiring diagrams, labels, lists and blue prints for small projects. A data base for all my Triumph M/C parts would be too much work. My youngest son is impressed that all are boxed and labeled by part numbers ... and all in sequence.

As to the Tongs in a box, it depends on the type person you are. Some people put work to be done in a file drawer ... others (like me) must have it out on the desk in a tray ... out of sight out of mind. So saying, I have vast expanses of light yellow, peg boards covered with tools and items for projects.

I've got an idea for your mac- any mac will hold a simple data base. So,
use this one in your garage. Anytime you store a box of stuff, write out a
little card on the mac saying what was in the box and where the box was put.
Then when you go looking for the barbque tongs NEXT summer, you'll have a hope of
finding then without unpacking half the boxes stowed in the basement, attic
or garage. I would print out a copy of the 'card', put it in a ziplock baggie
and tape the baggie to the box.

Anyway, if i had a spare machine, that's what I would use it for.
