Hi, I have a PTpro225, thats sitting dead in the water right now.
Can I try to hook up the PTP Box to my Mac Colorsync working monitor, and
check to see if the video cards the problem, and not risk hurting the
Colorsync 20" monitor?? in case the video card in the PTP is damaged? I get
a startup chime on the ptp, and it sound like its starting up )but the dead
screen is just a half size horizontal grey and nothing shows up on the
desktop, so I cant tell if the PTPs actually working..
just dont wanna wreck anything in my only good monitor if the PTP Video card
can do any damage.
Thanx
When I first got a PTP225, I had problems connecting to my VGA monitor. It would start up with the gray screen, and then soon as it started loading OS 9.1, it would black out and there would be nothing I could do with it. But when I loaded with extensions off it would boot just fine. By poking around in the System folder I discovered that the monitor settings had been set to 832 x 625 or whatever weird Mac-only screen pref it was. I deleted the Monitor Prefs and the Display Prefs files from the System Folder and rebooted with extensions on. That way it booted just fine. Then I downloaded the latest version of the ixMicro Twin Turbo drivers (it's hard to find, I forget where I got it, but if anyone's interested I will post my copy for download or email it to you). In the meantime try this page: <http://www.desktopartist.com/download.htm> From then on, those drivers sync my monitor no matter if it's Mac video or VGA. I even tried it on my former roommate's Mac monitor and it works great. So try plugging in your other monitor and boot with extensions off (hold down Shift at startup until the Mac OS logo appears). If that works you know it's a problem with the driver or card settings. I hope this helps.
Sincerely yours,
Jack Mileur
P.S. Even if your display works without it, the ixMicro drivers are a big improvement over the standard Apple drivers. They take advantage of the hardware acceleration in a way that the standard drivers don't. I discovered that when I installed these drivers, all of my windows drew faster and I suddenly found my web browsers scrolling at twice their old rate. It even improved performance in games like Descent and MDK, as well as my NES and SNES emulators. Try it!
