On Mon, Oct 20, 2003, PowerMail Engineering [EMAIL PROTECTED], invoked powers within the internet realm, to proclaim ...
>>For some reason, PM >>leeched onto the fake display name, and each attempt to use the contact >>auto-complete feature, by typing "ches" it dutifully provides my address >>[EMAIL PROTECTED] along with the display name "Douglas" - that is NOT >>what I want. > >If you use to send messages to yourself, you should add your address in >the address book: contacts from the address book appear of course before >those from the address history in the address completion list. >However, you're true, we should add on option to put only addresses from >sent messages to the address history, to avoid spam addresses from >received messages. I guess I'm not making myself clear. I have six email addresses that I use for messages to/from myself. I have six email addresses that I use in the Apple Address Book. All my email addresses that I use have been in the Apple Address Book before this incident. All my email addresses that I use are unchanged in the Apple Address Book after this incident. The only recent change to my addresses in Apple's Address Book was an additional email address a couple of weeks ago. This change had no similarity to my [EMAIL PROTECTED] email address that might have caused me to err and put "Douglas" in the address. I frequently send email messages to myself to several of the addresses listed in the Apple Address Book from PowerMail since it is currently my main email application. I send messages to one of my email addresses using AppleScripts, QK, and at times, just by typing the address manually. I have never sent messages to myself by invoking the built-in "double-click on a received message." in PowerMail. (Although many times I have wanted to do so from the BODY of the message, but PM isn't capable of this.) So, considering ALL the above; why did PM add this "Douglas" character AND replace "cheshirekat" [EMAIL PROTECTED] ? As I said, "cheshirekat" was NOT a display name in the drop-down list for me to select for auto-completion of the email address. I tried several times to continue typing the correct address and each time it kept putting in the wrong display name. Upon looking in PowerMail's address book, there is only one of my email addresses listed even though the Preferences tell it to update from the Apple Address Book at startup. I've had five of the email addresses for myself in the Apple Address Book for over a year. About a month ago, I removed one address and added another address a couple weeks ago. I don't use the PM address book by menu selection or other means because when I first started using PM it made a mess of my addresses, so I don't add or subtract contacts using PM's address book. I usually open the Apple Address Book manually to make changes. PM is supposed to be updating from Apple, yet it's obvious that it isn't in my case, and I do not know why. PM did not list any of the choices in the Apple Address book for address completion, and I don't know why. cheshirekat
