Fred,

Duke energy performs whole body counter calibrations or calibration
verifications annually or more frequently if required by events such as
equipment replacement or major repair. We perform our calibrations and
verifications in-house using NIST traceable mixed gamma standards. A
specialist and an RP staff scientist review each calibration and its associated
confirmation counts.

We perform daily QA measurements which trend peak channel, peak energy, peak
FWHM, efficiency and background. Results are compared immediately against
performance limits and are reviewed periodically for trends. The stati9ns also
analyze blind cross checks.

Subject: Powernet: QA of WBC calibration

We were recently asked how we perform a QA of our WBC calibration. We use a
vendor to perform the calibration and the documentation is complete and has
never been challenged, so I was stumped. We do QC checks on the daily
performance to document the daily performance vs. the cal.

What do you do for WBC calibration QA reviews? Especially if you use a vendor
to perform the calibration.
