At Ontario Power Generation (Darlington and Pickering, 4 and 6 units
respectively) we have a centralized analytical dosimetry lab:

· 6 bargaining unit techs for Dosimetry side,

· 3 techs for off-site radioanalytical environmental monitoring and
analyses

· 1 first level manager, different bargaining unit

· 1 health physicist, bargaining unit who is the SME for dose records
and our software systems

· 3 specialists (internal, external, and environmental), bargaining
unit, who support both the lab and sites for unusual events

· 1 Section Manager, management function

· 1 department manager, management function

At each site,

· 1 Dosimetry health physicist, bargaining unit, who deals with day to
day issues and dose assignment/ investigation, sometimes this individual helps
with other station HP functions

· 3 Data clerks, bargaining unit

· 3 dosimetry handling unit, bargaining unit, who prep the TLD packs,
put them out, perform daily transport of bioassay samples (we process over 200
000 urine samples a year for tritium), and extremity tld packs

Dosimetry is issued to all individuals who go beyond the public domain (we have
a different configuration of Zoning)

We are always looking to find efficiencies and cost savings. Recent (over past
few years)

· Switch from UG to Prosafe (UG did not have a "green" cocktail at that
time) and Prosafe turned out to be cheaper.

· LSAs efficiency SNC, quench curve and other QC checks switched to
weekly (fairly stable for couple of months before we decide to redo)

Subject: [powernet] A few questions about your dosimetry department

Hello, I'm interested in a broad overview of your dosimetry program
roles/responsibilities, if you wouldn't mind answering a few informal benchmark
questions:

1) How many individuals are involved in implementing your dosimetry
program? (from in-processing through termination)

2) Are those individuals bargaining unit or management?

3) What are their primary roles, and what other station functions are
covered within your program? (respirator fits, environmental/REMP, etc?)

4) Do dosimetry employees have required duties outside of dosimetry?

5) What is your role?

6) Does your station issue dosimetry to all individuals on-site, or only
to those entering a RCA?

7) Do you anticipate needing to make any departmental changes as a result
of nuclear promise initiative strategies?

Thank you in advance for any information you may be able to provide.
