Review Comment:
   I guess I should say, though, that my protestations do become a lot more 
muted with a more efficient `Future`. I do wonder how efficient we can really 
go, though, having pondered it a little. We can reduce the memory footprint a 
little, but it is hard to improve the performance due to multi-threading - and 
anything we do to improve the multi-threading is likely to involve memory 
consumption trade-offs.
   
   I have a general preference to use the minimal API required to implement a 
feature, but a really cheap and ergonomic future might be compelling anyway. 
Perhaps I will have a play with `AbstractFuture` and see what I can extract if 
we impose some restrictions such as a single follow-up action.
