Review Comment:
   Are we sure this is the best way to do this? We're occupying a thread 
waiting for these results. My preference would be to supply a callback to the 
apply method, as this is also easier for me to refactor to enrich with extra 
parameters explaining the outcome in my partial replication patch, but 
alternatively listeners would suffice?
   
   If I don't hear anything I will go ahead with refactoring to callbacks in my 
follow-up work.
