Well, none that I've come across so far :)

It's a different kind of alignment from the standard one available from the
Epson utilities. It is alignment of the print head parallel to the paper
(you can see the manual adjuster on the right side of the print head unit).
I did not need to do it after changing my 1160 printhead... and have not yet
heard of anyone who had to. In fact, I'm using the printer just now so I'm
pretty happy with the fix.

I could not say that. I should say that these alignment, voltage and clean
utilities are available only on some Epson software that theoretically only
Epson certified engineers have. Only trouble is, not even all Epson
certified techs seem to have it, so I guess that there are some implications
there. I imagine the head voltage thing is more to cover a possible
eventuality that they changed the manufacturing of the heads, which in
practice I'm not sure how likely they are to do.

Depending upon the type of work you are looking to do, I would possibly
recommend buying a new printer, and fixing this one as a bckground task. It
could then be your backup. However, this would not work if it was for
anything other than working prints etc. Ideally, your backup would be the
same model as your main printer.

Just my 2p!
