The archive will have to build up for a few weeks before it is of value.
Then I will use it. I regularly subscribe and unsubscribe to this list as
traffic is heavy. If I'm away for a few days I don't want 5000 Prodig
messages when I get back! So I will browse the archive to find what's
being discussed.

Had the archive been running a few months I'd be looking there right now
to find out why everyone talks about different ink brands for inkjet
printers...

I understand the real fear of spam from web site harvesting, I think
there are better ways of dealing with it though. I must add however that
if I wanted some email addresses from this list there is a much more
efficient way of doing it. One method (known to all spammers) is to send
the following message to >Majordomo (at) connectinternetsolutions (dot) com<

who prodig

Try it and see. You are now the proud possessor of 488 genuine email
addresses.

I think the Prodig owners are going to have to consider 'closing' the
list. In other words make membership by approval and the archive open
only to members. I don't think that will cause you any more work than
mailing those, like me, who forget and don't delete an email address from
a posting.

Quoting a previous mail and using the poster's email address is pretty
much a standard accepted way of doing things. As far as I know all email
programs do it by default. And I do know from experience of running
another mailing list most users don't know how to change their settings.
So no matter how much you scream and shout the list moms will for ever be
slapping subscribers for 'forgetting'.

Personally, I have changed my email address for this list to a disposable
one. Seems like an easy option...
