Macs are beautifully engineered. The other point to remember is just how
many CCD-RAW files do you shoot in a day? If you shoot, let's be generous,
250 and you can save 5 seconds on each, that's only a saving of 20 minutes.
OTOH, Macs can do multi-tasking so while the file is being processed, you
could catch up on your ProDig posts or do some browsing and drain your
credit card. ;-)
But joking aside, if you shoot that many CCD-RAW files (and I don't think
the difference runs into 5 seconds but I'm too lazy to double-check the
tests), you can't be much of a photographer OR you are in a minority.
Without doing any research, I suspect most shoot JPEGs and shoot CCD-RAW
only when they need the extra pixels or are unsure of the color or exposure
- or your need for exposure is so critical that you need the extra
incremental options CCD-RAW processing provides. IAC, you're going to be in
a minority.
I'm hoping the new Photoshop RAW plug-in can process the files faster than
the software that was tested.
