A few years ago I read an article about a digital capture device that
basically converted an film-based SLR to a digital camera. It looked like a
35mm film cassette with its leader out, and indeed was designed to fit into
the film bay of a conventional 35mm camera. I was interested because it
seemed like a good way to go digital whilst retaining my beloved EOS 5.
This was the Imagek EFS (Electronic Film System) originally shown at the DIMA conference early 98. It was subsequently shown over the years at a number of exhibitions, always with an imminent commercial launch date. As time went by, it's relatively low resolution (as far as I recall it was sub megapixel) and the fact that there would have to be specific versions for different camera platforms, made it less and less interesting.

I seem to remember it went through a name change - or even a company change. I haven't heard any mention of it for quite a long time now.

An interesting concept but I would imagine fraught with technical and practical implementation problems.
