If you are using Photoshop, there are several ways to convert from RGB to
grayscale.

1- Direct conversion to Greyscale. Avoid. It is based on luminosity of the
image. A conversion based on luminance would give better result.

2- Desaturate method. Then use levels and curve to control contrast and
density.

3- Convert to Lab Color then delete individual channels. A good method

4- Channel Mixer method, probably the preferred method

5- Calculation method (Image - Calculation - Multiply, try other settings
too)

There could be others methods in Photoshop that I do not know about.

Cheers,
Andre
