Dear Mike,

Sorry for coming in late on this one. Once again, I find myself having to
catch up on an awful lot of ProDig traffic...

Anyway, I use the following method regularly and find it works well:

With your 8 bit RGB document, create a new Hue/Saturation layer and change
its blending mode to 'Color' (doesn't say 'Colour' even in the British
version <G>).

Don't do anything to this layer yet, other than the change in blending mode.

Create another hue/saturation layer above it and de-saturate the Master
'channel' by 100%.

Now you are effectively left with a method of channel mixing resting below
the de-saturated layer.

Simply open the first h/s layer and play with the hue slider in the Master
channel until you land upon your desired effect. You can, of course,
investigate making further (much more subtle) adjustments in all the other
channel tabs....

As I am a tidy sort of chap, I then create a new set called 'BW' and keep
these layers tucked away together,

I often find myself using a setting of around +130 so that more information
from the green channel (where most of the detail within a digital image
resides) is brought into the mix.

A very neat and flexible way of working.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,

JL
