Tony, If your on Mac, Iview Media Pro is good for this.
Photo Mechanic is also excellent for batch renaming. Also, Photostation, but alas only in OS9. MacBibble as well, if you need it for compatible Raw files. Unfortunately, in OSX there is no one browser to satisfactorily carry out all tasks. I find myself diving into browser after browser to get different things done. What ever you shouldn't have to do them manually!
