At least with os9's 'rebuild desktop', you felt you knew what it was doing ;)
I Had the memory problem too, and found it best to revert to my original ram and try to diagnose the problem from there
I've had less trouble since switching to safari from ie5, sometimes the permanent internet connection seemed to cause some problems.
