It has had two new hard drives a new logic board and has had the entire hard disk scrubbed to eliminate faults- unsuccessfully! The second company I took it to replaced the HD (again) and it worked OK for a while. Then numerous error type 10, 2, and 3 messages occurred. I ran disk warrior (having previously used Norton and) Everything froze and it had to go back to the repair shop. I have recently purchased a G4 and wanted to keep the G3 for admin only. Everything I needed has been transferred to the G4 but the G3 will not accept OSX and crashes regularly with OS 9.2. (sometimes from start up, sometimes mid program - a common error message is "Damage to the Volume Bit Map" - Running Norton helps temporarily. I have read with interest the comments about Norton but if anyone out there has a solution I'd be delighted to hear from them. I don't want to spend any more money than I already have but the company I deal with have said it may be a faulty processor. I have taken the ram cards out individually and it still falls over, It has had two new hard drives and logic board but there is still a problem. The machine did run for a year or so after the first new HD and logic board were replaced (although for some reason it took several hours for the company to load an operating system).
