In the days when I used to hot mount photographic prints to boards with a sheet of shellac, with first a heated iron and then the hot press - some of you will also remember - the way to avoid the warping was simply to counteract the effect by mounting a piece of plain paper to the back of the board to balance it.

Dear Clive

Ah yes, I forgot to mention that! It's exactly the same principle that occurs when veneering with wood or plastic laminate onto any board...one needs to apply a 'balancing' veneer to stop warping happening. This need arises even when using contact adhesives, which is of course cold mounting.

I read what Michael Wilkinson wrote and agree that cold mounting is a good alternative however surely the same sort of problems exist? Is it not so that when using these self adhesive foam boards that some warping occurs after mounting?

Cheers
