Actually I had very similar thoughts myself. Is there any limit to what the photographers job will soon involve? The problem, however, cannot really be blamed solely on the technology itself as this is only part of the story and as usual, its the people involved who create these circumstances. It seems that everybody else, such as the groups you mentioned are constantly throwing off these new duties onto the photographer and that we are now expected to assume the responsibility of learning ever changing complex new skills as technology evolves, principally so that they don't have to bother!! All of this leaves us with less time to create.
Above all, it annoys me most when the designer or whatever is incompetent technically and yet feels they are the only clever ones and don't even see why they should do more than wait for the completed job to fall into their lap after which they will stand for a round of applause. I remember a magazine director who I worked with for several years. She was particularly tough on photographers and a stern taskmaster who was never satisfied with results and yet one day while talking to her it became apparent that she did not even understand the difference between a negative and a transparency. Don't worry about the rant Richard, your in good company.
