As a relatively new owner of a Kodak 760 I am painfully aware of the extreme
noise at the higher ISO's. LAB to the rescue. Filtering with guassian blur
or dust and scratches in the a & b channels in LAB removes a large amount of
the splotchy blue residue that accompanies long exposures in low light. If
my understanding is correct, this is akin to the methodology automatically
employed by Quantum Mechanic for noise reduction.
