Hi Rosemarie >>Does anyone know how to disable common image edit functions such as flip horiz/vert, rotate, skew, etc., when posting images to the net?
Your requests tie to being able to download the image and save it out to your hard drive. Depending on how your webpages are compiled, you'll be able to use Javascript to disable right mouse button (PC) or ctrl (MAC) functionality. You can stop the user from saving the image out but they can easily just use a print screen command to capture the client window and then crop what they want. There will be a difference in quality but someone who is willing take web images is probably not that discerning. Even if you're using Flash, this is a problem. You're well advised to also limit 'view source' code because if there is a direct path to your image storage directory in the HTML code, the site visitor could just map the sub-directory and pick through your images on an indexed directory list. I've researched this extensively to stop people from downloading my work and have used Digimarc and Actionscripting in Flash to prove ownership/prevent downloading but there is nothing that you can do about the screen capture aspect. If someone knows of a way around this I'd love to hear it!
