This is just plain stupid (of Epson).
What happened to this idea of "full bleed" Epson printers ?
Full bleed side to side not top to bottom.
The printer cannot print onto a loose bit of paper.  It has to get a 
grip, just like the rest of us :-). The feed rollers have to be holding 
the paper as the last bit of ink gets applied, hence the margin on the 
trailing edge.
