Nigel, Are you using PC or Mac? If PC take a look at Breezebrowser from www.breezesys.com which will autorotate jpgs from Canon cameras.

It really is a smashing program for Canon users (I had a D30 but now use the 10D)and you may find its web proofing and copyright stamping worth using as well.
