I've just been experimenting with my lexar fire wire card reader and ipod (with OSX and image capture installed.) The first, impossible to solve, problem is that the fire wire port on the iPod does not seem to be a powered port. The card reader normally takes power from the computer fire wire port and needs power of some sort to make it work. Looks like this is one problem Apple will have to solve some point in the future.
