<< I'm trying to set up a Canon 10D to work for a friend... and need advice regarding selecting the colourspace. The default appears to be sRGB... I would like Adobe 1998. I can see its available as a choice in menu, and select it, but when I open the files in PS I am told there is no profile attatched to the file.
Please can someone explain what I'm doing wrong ? >> The 10D does indeed not apply a profile, so PS has to rely on the EXIF data. The problem then is that the EXIF data format allows only sRGB or unspecified to be selected. If using the Adobe RGB option you need to apply the profile when opening in PS. I believe that there is a real conversion occurring in the 10D firmware when you select Adobe RGB. If you photograph a ColorChecker in both sRGB and ARGB mode, and open both in PhotoShop, the Lab readout values for the patches are almost identical.
