Dear Stefanie, I'm sorry you have a problem. The only thing I can offer in the way of help is never install one version of windows over another always make a clean install. 98 to xp fails, so did 98 to me. So maybe try again if you can and back up all your data to a serpate drive. Always alos download the latets bios for your motherboard and flash it. A lot of baorsd may support xp but need an upgrade.
