I've found over the years that partitioning your Windows drive is
useful, when you want to upgrade - just low level format the partition.
Also pain saving procedure is having a separate CD of all your drivers
and inf files etc so when it goes looking for drivers, point it to the
CD-ROM and away the installer goes. I've never experienced any problems
doing it. Once every 8-12 months, I'll also low level format the disk
because invariably there are going to be programmes that I tried and
didn't like and the uninstaller didn't do a proper removal and there
will be redundant keys floating around the registry and strings in .ini
files - it just speeds things up a bit and is quicker than actually
messing about trying to find all the items.
