Hi,
I've never used an 848, but had this problem when scans were done at a lab. I seem to recall it was to do with sharpening applied at the time of scanning. I remember that setting a figure of zero doesn't give zero sharpening for some obscure reason. To get zero sharpening you have to set something like minus 121 or something silly. Someone more knowledgable on this should have the exact figure??
Dear David
I think someone has already provided the correct figure but just in case there is anyone still in doubt, the magic number is minus 120. As for the black specks, whilst this can of course be a symptom of shoddy processing, I seem to recall that there was a particular Fuji film which had this inbuilt problem a little time ago. I never fell foul of it but several people came to this conclusion I believe.
If the original poster is interested, I would be happy to make them a free high res. drum scan of ONE frame which showed this problem, as an experiment to see if we could reduce or even eliminate it with wet mounting on our drum scanners.
Cheers
