Jo,

It might be worth having a word with the CPS service manager Safta Zaman at the Canon Service Centre in Elstree - Unit 130 Centennial Park, Elstree WD6 3SD - tel 020 8731 4134. Very helpful and charming chap who doesn't rush you out.

I had a problem with the dreaded front focus problem with my 10D (its not a myth!): it was only a couple of weeks old. Calumet wanted to send it to Canon to check it out and said it would probably take from 2 to 5 weeks. They did not have any loan bodies available so I said I'd take it to save some time as Elstree is only about 10 minutes drive from my home.

Safta came and sat with me during his lunch break and looked at the prints I had taken along. He confirmed that it was front focus and said they had a software fix. He apologized that he could not look at it then because he was in the middle of a seminar but said it should be ready on Wednesday (this was on the Friday).

It was. I had the impression that he would have done it while I'd waited if he hadn't been involved with the seminar. I was very impressed with the service - a lot better than waiting 2 - 5 weeks...

Incidentally Jo, if you were not aware of it, Leeds is now part of Calumet, so you should have no problems with our warranty.

Good luck!

Clive

I have a Canon 1Ds that developed a sensor fault last month. The sensor was
replaced under warranty. The new sensor is also faulty (with a fault that
Canon have never heard of) and this time there are no more sensors available
until February 2004. I bought the camera from Leeds (who don't exist now).
Any ideas what I should do, given that I've got digital jobs booked in most
days? Canon seem to be unavailable for comment at the moment.
