Sorry ListMom if this is a little off-topic but it is to do with telecoms which we all use.
I live in a communications black-hole ie. fast modem rate is about 43000 bps on a good day with a following wind. No cable supplier possible so basic phone line is supplied by BT who are actually incredibly quick on any faults etc. Have been using OneTel via a code number access for phone calls etc.
Recently got a phone bill from One Tel which was just staggering with incredibly high internet charges which amazed me as was, I thought using BT to make my internet connections.
Queried this with One Tel who informed me that they had sent me a letter telling me that as one of their customers via code access they were offering me the opportunity of using their lines as my default service. All I had to do was not make any reply to the letter and they would assume this was my wish and would switch the service accordingly. I would still be able to access BT by a code but effectively I was going to become a OneTel customer if I did not respond to their letter. As I had failed to respond to the letter - I was on holiday at the time and to be quite honest had not really looked carefully at it when I got back - they had simply assumed I wanted their service and had the line switched over.
I've had a battle to get the line back and certain service charges re-funded so anyone who uses OneTel should just be very careful they do not find themselves being hi-jacked. Quite extraordinary behauvior so beware.
Now maybe this request will get me back on topic!
Various telecom providers offer unlimited internet access for a fixed monthly charge - obviously one has to use their software. I have tried various providers and they all make various claims about compatibility with Mac OSX - NTL were quite the most amazing as they sold me a great package which was promised as OSX friendly. It was not and although they then admitted that I should not have been given that specific assurance, they told me that there was a fix but that I would have to call their technical assistance line at about 80p a minute to get that fix.
Probably cutting off my nose to spite my face in refusing to be further ripped off but does anyone out there know of a supplier who can provide OSX compliant software for accessing the internet at monthly fixed charges.
