At the studio I had BT Openworld broadband adsl and they provided a plug and go Intel modem, I refused the Alcatel as I was aware via this list there were problems with OS X,
Although I was on OS 9 at the time, when I changed to Panther a few weeks ago, the intel will not work with OS X, I've replaced it with a adsl router and installed a network all working fine.
Different story at home, where I use BT Broadband (different company apparently) and was supplied with a very simple to install BT Voyager 100 modem, which handled the change to Panther without a single glitch.
Therefore, I would recommend using BT Broadband as opposed to Openworld.
