Why not tell the support people you have a router? Many companies have routers these days to share an Internet connection: BTOpenworld used to have a page telling you how to configure them (when I had an account with them).

I now have my ADSL account with Mailbox Internet: they know I use a router and they could not be more helpful - and they like and use Macs too.

However, I think Mike was talking about the telecom company that he connects through, not his ISP (Mike, please correct me if I'm wrong).

Even if you only connect one computer - the router will keep you safer
as your own address will be hidden

But don't tell the supporrt guys you have a router.
