I'd be interested in hearing of what other digital users are doing<snip
because I know that I have a burgeoning collection of CD backups and the
thought of them 'expiring' fills me with cold horror. I did a lot of
homework in selecting a brand with a reasonably proven life term but
I've now considered due to the number of these discs that I should copy
them onto DVD and at a ratio of 6/7:1, it'll make things a lot neater.
What is everyone else doing? Does anyone have any thoughts?
Hi Alex and All,
The hassle with CD/DVD, added to what had been told here by others subscribers, is they are not easily reachable and erasable.
I made a comparison to cost DVD versus HD storage, they are the same (Apple DVD to FW LaCie 120,250 GB), so I am thinking to set a RAID in mirroring mode of three 250 GB HD, if one fail I would be able to replace it by an other without loosing any data, a friend of mine had experienced this. It seems that the RAID format doesn't need any de-fragment or rebuilt directory.
With an asset management soft like Cumulus I should be able to reach, erase, move the files.
Have some of you tested the RAID set up? Any advices? Precautions?
Best regards.
