Don't know if you NEED it or not but it will certainly be very useful. Use it to download images and critically evaluate them onsite... or even better, use it for tethered shooting. I don't know how well Canons do that. I bought my first laptop (PowerBook 2400) to go with my first digital camera (some sort of high dollar Fuji point and shoot) back in 97. Even that old Fuji was capable of tethered shooting via a SCSI connection. I became hooked on the convenience of having a laptop in the workflow and couldn't imagine life without one now. I recently upgrade to a 17 inch G4 Powerbook. I've owned a couple of G3 models in between. That old 2400 is still running. Its the mail and DNS server for my domain and a handful of others (built in battery backup!). If you're reading this post, its still humming along. I happened to have my new 17 inch sitting next to the 2400 the other day. The 2400 was the smallest laptop Apple ever made. I calculate the new 17inch is just about he equivalent screen area of four of those 2400s. My how times have changed...
