Dear Richard, I too am thinking of a laptop as well for the following reasons in the new year. I am pc based so a little more there for me to choose from.
Reasons 1) allows me to go away and see friends at weekend and do a few hours work at their house when everyone else is in bed 2) calibrated can use tethered on location 3) can process on train/plane if travelling 4) can store large images 5) get a wacom graphire 3 for truly portable editing 6) use laptop if has burner to burn while you work on desktop machine 7) use laptop to complete a large amount of batch actions whilst on desktop machine. 8) allows clients to see shot on site and guage whether thats what they are after. Those are my reasons anyway. Ok if your mac based then not much choice. If you are pc based there are plenty of p4 3ghz ones which 15.1/16/17 u/wxga screens with resolutions up to 2100/1600 and contrast ratio of 500:1. Get ones with 1gb of ram /80gb hard drive and your sorted. Prices in the pc range are about 1500 inc vat/delivery/on site repair for 3 years. Ones to look at for pc based people www.multivision.co.uk get them to wack their 16 inch 1200/1600 screen www.dell.co.uk They have a new posh one on with wide aspect ration screen and you can wack 2gb of ram in them 1700 with 1gb ram. www.evesham.com got 64 bit amd ones now as well though screen res not as high as dell and multivision There are others but I have lost the links. cheers Ian Reynolds =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
