Whatever issues you had with an F4S will not be present in the AF-D and later optics Nikon is producing now. Nikon makes a 12-24 digital zoom which will be your best bet due to its optics designed for digital sensors. Sigma lenses are fine but in no instance have I found them to be better than Nikon.
