All the photographers here have Sinar digital cameras, Photoshop 7 and OS9.
The computers are used on trollys which move around the studio depending on
where sets are built. We then have an iMac running OS9 with an Epson 1270.
The iMac has USB printer sharing enabled. If the photographers want to see a
print of a current shot they simply print from their own machine and the
file is sent to the iMac and then to the printer. There is no need to even
touch the iMac other than to turn it on in the morning. Great system, worked
very well.

Problem started when I wanted to upgrade to Photoshop CS and therefore had
to move to OSX. I wanted to be able to carry on printing to the printer on
the iMac. However after following up all the replies on the list and even
trawling through OSX help files, I am now resigned to the fact that you
cannot print to a shared printer on an OS9 machine from an OSX one. The
solution that I have adopted is to connect the printer directly to my OSX
machine which is a pain when moving the camera setup around the studio. The
other photographers can still print to the printer whilst connected to my
machine though. Not a perfect solution but at least it works.

I understand now what you are doing. The downside to adopting this method
for us is two fold. Firstly expense, yet another copy of photoshop for the
iMac. and secondly time, with photographers having to copy files across to
the iMac, move to that machine, open them up on there and print.

thanks for your thoughts though

Steve
