Hi David, I don't know where your ink has appeared from. However, if it had occurred whilst you were printing I would have expected for you to see evidence of ink splodging on the printed sheets. Is it possible that the printer did a print having not correctly detected that the sheet of paper was not fully loaded? This I have found can be a real problem with the 2100 - it is 'quite easy' to get a sheet of paper loaded enough to be registered as loaded, and yet it is not properly fed through the printer. The result is printing on the sponge under the printhead as you note. I'd suggest you wipe off the plastic under the printhead path with clean tissues, perhaps a little damp cloth also.
