Hey list--

I am Marc Schlossman, freelance photographer based in London.

Dear Marc

Welcome!

The problem is the appearance of thin bands of what look like smeared grain (looking like motion blur), visible at 100 percent, very narrow, the banding running from side to side (perpendicular to the direction of travel through the machine). The bands are most prominent in black+white film scans where the grain is more defined but are also visible in colour work. The position of the bands on the scan is random and there can be anywhere from one to several on any given scan. Re-scanning immediately produces bands but in different parts of the frame.

No one will confirm this at TSW or Imacon

This is a well know problem which resulted in scanners being returned to Denmark, so for Imacon to say they do not know of the problem is just total rubbish!

The problem you describe had a very good airing on the Imacon user's list a couple of years ago and your experiences clearly show the problem persists. Someone down the road from here has an Imacon Photo that drove him hairless with the same problem......the dealer swapped it out with another but still the problem was there, only slightly less. I should say that we had a Precision 11 which was excellent, but that was a a replacement for a troublesome one.

Cheers

Richard
