Marc. Do you run your scanner directly from the main electricity supply? If so it could be a simple problem of an unstable supply. Running items like scanners,scan backs etc is best done through a good quality UPS unit. this will provide a supply of smooth electricity without spikes and eliminate yet another potential weak link.
