Hi Phil Would suggest LViewPro (http://www.lview.com/Download.htm). I used a version of it about 5 years ago because it had an unrivalled ability to open up corrupt files where the header data was lost, displaying the image as was including corrupt information.
Looking at their site, it seems that they've gone and made the program all clever and Photoshop like - it might still solve your problem.
