Indeed a spectro (Eye One) is needed.

Yes in general it can be, but if you don't do too many it won't be a
problem. Also Gretag has found a pretty clever way of doing it: Somewhat
simplified they use the spot measured colour to "replace/prioritise" the
closest patch on the target with the spectral measurements off the critical
colour.

The Sinar version 5 beta I had at the Seminar was a pre-pre release. I don't
have access to a newer version. It was actually possible to do the profiling
with that version of the software though, but there was a few too many hoops
to jump through for a live demo so we decided to just show the effects of
the profile in PS.

I believe the release candidate of the v5 Sinar software will be available
in September (Photokina). This is strictly rumour though - could be either
before or after...
