Firstly I know nothing of canons sw or Phase One Capture

I haven't used Nikon Capture V4 but my impression of 3 is that whilst it
actually gives a more neutral result (against ACR) its design is clunky,
features such as curves didn't work correctly and its was painfully slow.

You also had to have 3 programs open to shoot tethered, View, Capture
Control & Capture - its some months since I've used the D1X so forgive me if
I'm wrong.

I used to shoot into View & convert using ACR but that meant having PS open
as well - just to get a fast, larger preview.
With the Kodak SLRn sw I have only camera manager & PhotoDesk open & never
have to convert into PS to check the result as I seemed to do with the
nikon.
The only part of the nikon sw superior to the Kodaks is the firing from
computer bit. In the nikon its very good, easy & clear to set the aperture,
etc. The Kodak sw it terrible in this respect and needs urgent attention
(are you listening Martin!)

The other important factor is the lack of detail in the highlights of the
nikon files. The kodak wins hands down here.

There are other important differences but it starts to come down to personal
prefs.

At this time the kodak is better & if you want to crop at all then the D1X
is a non-starter.
Next week all may change for all I know.

Kind Regards
